The next step is to use wood brighteners. This helps to increase penetration and make old wood appear brand new.  After this step, we rinse the wood thoroughly with a lot of water to remove any chemicals that were present in the deck cleaners and wood brighteners, this helps to prevent from the cleaners and brighteners from resurfacing which could destroy the stain.
Next we ensure that all the nails that may appear above the surface be hammered inside as nails may making your staining rough. Also any are that should not be stained should be taped. This should be done since stain penetrates wood quiet easily and the result of staining unwanted areas could be undesirable.
